This pair of delicate ear clips are crafted from 18 karat yellow gold and are each set with a round brilliant cut diamond. The clips are by famed London jeweller Andrew Grima who has been described as 'the father of modernist jewellery' and was manufacturing jewels and objet d'art in the second half of the 20th Century. Crafted as clusters of oval matte gold 'cups' each clip is set with a round brilliant cut diamond which has been four claw set. The 's' hallmark to the rear of the clips indicates manufacture in London in 1973, the height of Grima's popularity and is around the time he manufactured jewels for Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, and the late Queen Elizabeth II. During the 1960s and 1970s Grima was known to have had royal patronage starting with The Duke of Edinburgh who purchased a brooch for Queen Elizabeth set with carved rubies. He later manufactured jewels for Princess Anne and Princess Margaret and held a Royal Warrant to manufacture gifts given on behalf of the sovereign. Each clip has a hinged back and a small silicone insert to cushion the closure on the ear. These ear clips whilst delicate in nature ooze with the Grima aesthetic which is derived from the worldwide brutalist designs of the 1960s and 1970s.
