A superb George II period oil on canvas portrait of an English gentleman. The picture which dates to circa 1750 has been framed in a 'later' sympathetic frame and appears to be on the original canvas and not 're stretched'. The gent featured, due to his clothing, wig and adornments, would likely be an aristocrat or person of high wealth. This ideology is supported by the fact that he was having a large and impressive portrait painted in the 18th Century, which was reserved for upwardly mobile citizens. A really wonderful picture of a rather camp Georgian man which is in lovely condition for its age.
