The face, hair and head of the bust is carved from a single piece of pink coral which is topped with a gold crown set with emeralds and a pearl. The head also has drop earrings which are formed from gold and natural cultured pearls. The torso of the piece is finely engraved and has been set with six baguette cut emeralds and a pear shaped emerald, all rubover set. The shoulders of the bust are set with drilled natural cultured pearls which take the form of epaulettes. To the rear the piece has a hinged twin pin brooch fastener which is working well and is secure, along with a gold bale that has been added at some point after its original manufacture. A striking and unusual piece, it is undoubtedly one of a kind, and may even be designed to reference Queen Mary, who was a notable jewel collector. In lovely condition the piece does have one slight area of note, which is a slight bleed of solder where the bale has been added, however this is at the rear of the brooch pendant and is not noticeable from the front. The pair are each marked with French eagle purity marks outlining the gold purity however are not marked for any particular maker. It is thought that should they have had a makers mark it would have likely been on the frame which is no longer with the pair of clips. Whilst it is impossible to say we can see a similarity between these clips and the Art Deco pieces by Boucheron and believe they could be crafted by the famous maison. These exceptional clips have such versatility and can be worn in several ways or even just singly if desired.

Marked - French eagle assay mark

Measure - 3cm in length each and 1.75cm at widest point each

Total diamond weight - 2.50 carat

Total weight of pair - 11.76 grams

Independent appraisal values the pair at $25,000.

This bold and well crafted brooch pin has been manufactured from yellow and white 18 karat gold and set with an array of white and yellow diamonds. To the centre of the pin is a rather large princess cut aquamarine weighing 8.80 carats and has been classed as 'bright mid blue eye clean with some light facet wear'. The gemologist who has viewed this piece notes that this central aquamarine is likely a later replacement, which leaves one wondering if it formerly contained a large sapphire or even a diamond. Despite this central stone not being original to the piece it is certainly sympathetic to the brooch, with aquamarines and diamonds regularly seen together in Art Deco jewellery. To the rear of the pin there is a 14 karat yellow gold pin with roller style catch which is working well and is secure. For over 100 years, Henry Kohn & Sons was a high-quality jewellery institution in Hartford, Connecticut. Henry Kohn was born in Bohemia, Austria, in 1839 and came to America in 1865. Henry settled in Hartford, Connecticut, and started his small jewellery business. Kohn's eponymous company was a retail and wholesale diamond and precious gemstone establishment that enjoyed much success. An 1886 article from the Hartford Courant stated that Kohn "is everywhere recognised as a gentleman of superior business attainments and thoroughly affable ways and manners". This is perhaps the most exquisite Art Deco bow brooch we have had and is bound to be an elegant addition to an evening gown or black jacket.

Marked - unmarked but tests as platinum

Measures - 7cm in length

Total diamond weight - 2.10 carat

Total weight of piece - 9.41 grams

Independent appraisal values the piece at $9400.

During the mid 20th century it was undeniable that Tiffany and Company were one of the most luxurious jewellery companies in the world. This gorgeous stylised flower brooch pin dates to that period of their fame and was made in Italy for retail by Tiffany. The hefty brooch pin is crafted from 18 karat yellow gold and set with a single oval piece of cabochon turquoise which forms the central 'pollen' of the flower. The very tips of the petals on the flower are textured with the most incredible mottled finish leaving a bold contrast. The piece features a hinged pin to the rear with rolling safety catch for added security when worn. The piece is signed to the inside of the rear of the flower with a plaque and indicates it was manufactured in Italy for retail by Tiffany in their stores. The cabochon turquoise is of the quality that it has possibly been sourced in Persia (modern day Iran) where some of the most beautiful turquoise in the world was mined during the 20th century. This beautifully textured brooch has been crafted in 18 karat yellow gold and has the look of a piece of stylised gold ribbon. The brooch is very typical of the Dunay taste, with the famed north American jeweller favouring textured gold, with this brooch having what could be described as a brushed 'Florentine' finish. To the rear the brooch has a stainless steel and yellow gold hinged pin with trombone clasp which is working well and secure. Henry Dunay (1935-2023) could be described as being one of America's greatest jewellers, with Elizabeth Taylor and Hillary Clinton counted among his clientele. The plaque takes the form of a spiralling wreath type motif with perhaps what is supposed to mimic berries. The design of the brooch is hauntingly similar to the Boucheron diamond wave tiara which is inspired by the Japanese artist Hokusai's work 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'. Interestingly three of the sides of this brooch are rippled while the top edge is completely straight, leading us to think it was perhaps originally one half of a double belt buckle, and later converted to be a brooch. The brooch features the word 'Reflection' on a plaque to the rear which was a range introduced in 1938 and was usually marked to the rear as this example is. This particular piece is what is known as a 'double clip' brooch pin, which consists of two separate dress pins that can be mounted onto a frame and be worn as a single, much larger brooch pin. The piece which is crafted from 14 karat white gold takes the form of stylised flower motifs with long stamens and stems. The two largest diamonds in the piece are each F colour, measure 0.79 carat and 0.74 carat and are SI2 and VS1 in clarity. These two largest stones are classed as being early brilliant cut stones, as are a number of the other diamonds in the piece, combined with baguette cut and single cut diamonds. The balance of the diamonds are each of F/G colour and VS to SI in clarity, and combined with the two larger stones weigh approximately 15.18 carat. The two dress pins have hinged double pins to the rear which can be clipped over a small white gold frame that is fitted with a larger single hinged pin and finished with a rolling safety catch.
