This finely painted 19th century copy of Raphael's 'Madonna Della Seggiola' is framed in its original elaborate gilt timber frame. The original picture Raphael painted in 1514 and is housed in the Pitti Palace in Florence. It depicts Mary embracing Jesus Christ and to the right, a young John the Baptist looking on. Raphael's work is from the High Renaissance period, where this smaller copy is painted on porcelain and likely dates to the 19th century. Most probably purchased by an aristocrat or person of wealth on their 'Grand Tour' through Italy, the picture would have been produced as an upmarket souvenir of the period.

In largely original, untouched condition, with only some minor losses to the very elaborate gilt frame, commensurate with age.
