Etruscan Style 'Phanolith' Vase in the Jasperware Taste by Mettlach

$2,750 AUD

Tax included.

This bold ceramic vase dates to the late 19th Century and was manufactured by German maker Mettlach. The double handled Etruscan style vase is known as a 'phanolith' piece and could be described as being in the jasperware taste. The shape of the vase is likely modelled on the Portland vase for which Josiah Wedgwood gained his fame. The German maker Mettlach were later to become Villeroy & Boch which are still producing ceramics today. The piece has neoclassical detailing and is capped off with a Greek key collar toward the top of the rim. A beautiful decorator piece which is in good antique condition for something nearing 150 years of age.

Measures - 28.5cm high
