This pair of carved rock crystal and 14 karat yellow gold ear clips were made by Patricia Schepps Vaill of Seaman Schepps. The ear clips comprise of a pair of carved rock crystal shells which have been attached to a gold back plate with the addition of some twisted yellow gold 'bands' and a pair of yellow gold 'end caps'. The pair are marked for manufacture by Patricia Schepps Vaill of Seaman Schepps, the founder's daughter and president of the company after her father's death. Schepps are known for their sea-inspired jewellery whether it be in the form of actual salvaged shells or jewels crafted to imitate them. The pair of shells have a slightly 'mismatched' pair of clip fittings to the rear, indicating that perhaps one has been replaced at some stage during their lifetime, however this doesn't impact the appearance of the clips at all.
Seaman Schepps, the Park Avenue firm, was founded in 1904 and was often referred to as 'America's Court Jeweller'. Famous clients of Schepps range from Jacqueline Kennedy to Blanche Knopf with the firm remaining an American favourite into the current day. Patricia Schepps Vaill took over the firm after her father's death in 1972 and remained with the firm until her retirement in 1988. This assists us to date the ear clips to this 16-year period during the 20th Century.
