A modern glass 'Pate De Verre' centrepiece bowl in the Bacchus pattern by French glass maker Daum. Pate de verre is a French glassmaking term which translates simply to 'glass paste'. Typically ground glass which could be coloured with different pigments is poured into a mould and 'fused' into the desired shape. The technique was first applied by the Ancient Greeks and was revived in the 19th and 20th century. This particular centrepiece features an amethyst glass bowl sitting atop of a pate de verre green base in which there are two faces. The piece retains its original retailing label to the top of the bowl.
