This small Flemish picture is painted on either copper or tin and likely dates to the 18th Century. The picture depicts a noble woman being attended to by her maid and a well dressed gent to the background of the image. The noble woman has a small dog seated on her lap, perhaps a spaniel of some kind. The piece resides in a well carved and gilt timber frame which is likely a later addition and not its original housing. The picture is in untouched condition and has not been restored or altered since we acquired it.
To the rear of the picture is a sticker for 'The Den', a framer, art dealer and antiques premises run by Charles W Gregory of Winnipeg in Canada. His premises was located at 276 Main Street in Winnipeg and whilst we know the picture can be placed there at some stage in the early 20th Century from the sticker to the rear, it is unclear if the piece was simply reframed or whether it was retailed as an antique painting through 'The Den'.
