A pair of early to mid 20th Century neo classical style ceramic goddesses. The pair which have a green glazed foot have a white overglaze and are marked 'Italy' to the underside. Both figures are female goddesses with one being Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships. The second figure we believe to be Vesta who was the goddess of the hearth, home and hospitality. To have both a figure of Ceres and Vesta in the home was important and fostered good hospitality and relationships. To the underside the figures retain a small paper label which is likely from their original retailing store. In lovely condition these goddesses would be a welcome addition to a bookshelf or mantel.
