A charming brooch pin in gold and reverse painted Essex crystal depicting a coach scene. The reverse painted scene is skilfully rendered and framed rather whimsically by a gold riding whip. The reverse side of the brooch is engraved with the monogram 'JGB', likely the initials of the original owner. To the rear of the brooch is a hinged pin with safety catch which are both working well and are secure. The piece is in good overall condition for its age, however has two small chips to the crystal on the right hand side with are not particularly evident unless pointed out. The brooch dates to the second part of the 19th Century and likely originates from the United Kingdom. A really lovely and unusual piece of Victorian jewellery, perfect for a big winter coat.

Marked - unmarked but XRF tests as a combination of 9 and 13 karat gold

Measures - 3.5cm W x 2.5cm H

Total weight of piece -  15.2 grams
