This pair of rare 19th Century candlesticks were made by Wedgwood in their famous 'black basalt'. The pair of candlesticks feature neo-classical motifs which have been parcel gilt and bronzed which is rarely seen with Wedgwood having produced very few examples. The candlesticks at first glance appear to be late 18th Century in origin, however due to the wonderful condition of the gilding and bronze details along with the fact that the candlesticks are extremely ornate, we can safely date these to the 1880s when a revival of the late 18th Century pieces was seen. This rare pair are in exceptionally good condition with only one minor fleabite to the underside rim of one which is commensurate with age and does not detract from their beauty. The pair are truly something very special and a true collector's piece.
