This triple strand pearl necklace features a diamond and mabe pearl clasp and was formerly in the collection of the Counts of Hardenberg. The graduated triple strand of akoya type pearls are indivdually knotted and terminate at a 14 karat white gold clasp that has been set with a single mabe pearl and diamonds. The single cut diamonds are each graded as being of G colour and VS clarity totalling 32 pieces and 1.00 carat. Interestingly of the 131 pearls in the necklace, 22 are 'imitation' pearls, while the remaining 109 are genuine. The majority of the imitation pearls are the larger in the graduated strands, perhaps used as overly big akoya pearls are rare and difficult to source. Designed for the clasp to be worn at either the back or at the side, this necklace presents in very good condition. Likely manufactured in Germany in the 1950s the piece is unmarked for a maker, however we believe given it is stamped '585' that it originated in Germany. A really lovely necklace that is slightly more interesting than the standard triple strand pearl necklaces that are readily available.
