Yellow Gold 'Tubogas' Necklace

Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold this collar style necklace is what is known as 'tubogas' in style. The fully articulated snake type links have been beautifully machined and were first made popular during the 1930s and 1940s when Retro period jewellery was starting to become popular. The term tubogas is the Italian translation for 'gas pipe' and become an exceedingly popular technique with makers like Bulgari who have consistently used the technique for watches, bracelets and neckwear. This particular tubogas collar has been manufactured from 14 karat gold indicating it was likely manufactured in the United States, and is of very high quality. Weighty in its construction, the collar terminates with a double closure style clasp ensuring the necklace stays firmly on the wearer. The necklace presents in very good order, however has had some repairs to the clasp at some stage during its life, however these have been executed by a jeweller and the closure is secure. A really gorgeous piece of wearable, everyday jewellery.
