This pair of large hammered gold earrings were made by Canadian jeweller, Karl Stittgen. The 'golf ball' style earrings are entirely hand hammered which gives them the most wonderful matte texture and sheen which is hard to translate in photographs. Hollow in construction, despite their appearance they are exceedingly light to hold, with each earring just 12.5 grams, remarkable given their size. To the rear the earrings are finished with a French clip and post fitting meaning they sit close and snug to the ear. Stittgen immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1952 and his name is still attached to the family jewellery business after his passing in 2023. Trained initially as a watchmaker, Stittgen had great success as a jeweller and had stores in Calgary, New York, and San Francisco. Whilst these earrings likely only date to the end of the 20th Century, they are beautifully crafted and are a lovely example of Stittgen's work.
