This antique desk seal dates to the 19th Century and likely originated in France. The handle of the seal is a piece of polished and faceted rock crystal which is extremely clear to the eye and can be looked through as though it is a window. To the top of the handle is a section of finely enamelled 18 karat gold which has ornate vines and flowers over its surface. The base of the piece is again finely enamelled 18 karat gold that encases a smooth piece of carnelian known as the 'matrix', which is to date blank. The beauty of this antique seal is that it can be engraved with your own family crest or initials because it has remained blank throughout its history. A beautiful desk accessory in lovely condition with only some minor wear to the enamel and very minor flea bites to the rock crystal.
