A refined cast bronze statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. Guanyin, short for Guanshiyin, is a bodhisattva associated with eastern Buddhism and Chinese Taoism. It is believed by some buddhists that Guanyin places you in the heart of a lotus when you pass away, to be transported to the land of bliss, Sukhāvatī. This piece depicts Guanyin standing on a lotus flower, whilst holding a willow branch in her left hand, and a jar of pure water in her right, whilst baring a Amitābha buddha on her crown. It’s believed that the writing on the base was etched some time after the initial creation of the piece.
