
A bronze statue of a cuirassier on horseback, designed by Mathilde Thomas-Soyer (b. 1860-1940), and cast in bronze by the Thiebaut Freres Foundry. Mathilde Thomas-Soyer was one of the few professional female sculptors working in Paris in the late 19th century, and specialised in animalier subjects. She studied under the well-known sculptors Auguste Cain, himself an animalier sculptor, and Henri Chapu. The Thiebaut Freres foundry cast a number of her plaster maquettes in bronze.
