Early 19th Century Miniature Portrait of a Gentleman

Dating to the early part of the 19th century this miniature portrait is finely painted and retains what appears to be its original frame. The gentleman who is unidentified is depicted in Regency period clothing and from his appearance is likely a man of means or perhaps even an aristocrat. The black lacquer frame presents with its original convex glass, and has a period hanging ring with brass acorn detail which is in very good order. The lacquer of the frame has possibly been refinished at some stage in its life, however it is difficult to be sure. The portrait has not been removed from the frame as it is currently pasted in with an old paper backing which we did not want to disturb. In cursive writing to the paper backing is the text 'unknown came from Great Grandfather MacFarlane's Canal Bank Paisley', indicating some connection to the Paisley Canal in Scotland, which would be supported by the Scottish surname MacFarlane. Both the miniature and the frame present in good antique condition with the usual signs of wear commensurate with age. A beautiful miniature portrait in its original frame depicting a handsome Regency period chap.
