Framed Nude Lithograph by Erwin Lang

A lithograph illustration of a male nude by member of the Vienna Secession, Erwin Lang (1886-1962). Lang was the son of women's rights activist, Marie Lang, and studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under Alfred Roller. In 1911 he exhibited with Egon Schiele in an exhibition of the Hagenbund, of which he was a member. His importance lay particularly in the area of wood cutting in which he pioneered unusual light effects by simplifying the drawings. In World War I Lang was captured by the Russians, but made an adventurous escape to China and only returned in 1920 to Austria. Lang would go on to join the Vienna Secession in 1946. This lithograph is in wonderful condition with some minor creasing to the sheet commensurate with age. The lithograph was professionally framed in a modern black frame with a sympathetic charcoal coloured matte in 2026.
