Description
A beautiful French Art Deco glass vase by Daum Frères of Nancy. The vase features mottled, acid-etched sections between polished ribs in a brilliant yellow. Daum Frères, based in the eastern French city of Nancy, is a commercial glassmaking company founded in 1875. In the late nineteenth century, the firm became known for its innovative wares in the Art Nouveau style. After World War I, Daum turned to making bold acid-etched designs like this one—clearly influenced by Maurice Marinot—in an effort to remain competitive and up-to-date. Produced circa 1930, this piece is a testament to Daum's successful evolution from the Art Nouveau creations that made the name famous to an Art Deco maker still progressing the medium with new glass-making techniques and more moderne forms.
Marked: 'DAUM NANCY FRANCE' with the Cross of Lorraine (engraved)
Dimensions: 19cm H x 17cm D
