A ceramic vase by Émile Decoeur (1876-1953) for Sevres with a flat ovoid body, gadroons, and poly-lobed neck in a mottled dove grey, characteristic of the artist's moody colour palette. This Chinese-inspired model, created in 1910 and reissued in Sèvres between 1942 and 1953, quickly became one of the manufacturer's most famous vases.
Deceour was trained in his early days in the workshop of Edmond Lachenal in Châtillon, and was appointed on April 1, 1942 (following Jean Mayodon) artistic director of the Manufacture de Sèvres.
Marked: 'Sevres', 'Manufacture Nationale Decore a Sèvres'. Date letter for 1952.
Dimensions: 27.5cm H
Condition: Evidence of a repair can be seen from the interior (images attached)
