A superb George II period oil on canvas portrait of an English gentleman. The picture, which dates to circa 1750, has been framed in a later sympathetic frame and appears to be on the original canvas and not re-stretched. The gent featured, due to his clothing, wig, and adornments, would likely be an aristocrat or person of high wealth. This ideology is supported by the fact that he had a large and impressive portrait painted in the 18th Century, which was reserved for upwardly mobile citizens. A really wonderful picture of a rather camp Georgian man which is in lovely condition for its age.
