Georgian Perpetual Calendar Desk Seal

Description
This really unusual perpetual calendar desk seal dates to the late Georgian period and is complemented by a smokey quartz handle. The faceted smokey quartz handle features many inclusions and attaches to the adjustable perpetual calendar which is made from silver. To the very top of the seal there is a rectangular piece of what we believe to be plain rock crystal that has been engraved with the monogram 'WR' and mounted in sterling silver. The movable cylindrical calendar is beautifully hand engraved with days of the week and dates, and is perhaps a piece that would have been used when travelling due to its small size. Whilst the piece is not hallmarked there are several similar examples of these perpetual calendars, sometimes attached to propelling pencils and antique pens, the majority of which are crafted from hallmarked sterling silver, leading us to believe this is also crafted from sterling silver. A truly delightful object for a professional's desk, or an interesting addition to a collection of desk seals.
