This hand-hammered sterling silver bowl was made by Chicago firm The Kalo Shop. Completely hand-wrought the piece is in the American Arts and Crafts taste of the early 20th Century and features distinctive signs of hand hammering by the silversmith. The Kalo Shop was largely run and controlled by women and was pioneering in its philosophy and commitment to a primarily women-run workshop. This piece has heavy grey scaling which occurs mostly in hand-wrought items and should not be confused with tarnish. Whilst some silver collectors dislike grey scale, others find it as simply an addition to a hand-wrought item. A beautiful piece of early 20th-century silver with a distinctively modern feel.
