Description

This late Art Deco ring crafted from platinum and diamonds is best described as a 'tank' ring, and was manufactured in France, circa 1940. The beautifully hand crafted ring features stepped platforms which give the ring an architectural or 'machinist' look which often referenced army tanks, their tread and heavy construction. The ring is entirely set with old European cut diamonds with the central stone weighing 0.24 carat and being of G/H colour and SI1 clarity which is noted to have a minor surface fracture. The balance of the diamonds are each of G/H colour and VS-SI clarity, with a gemologist noting that one of these stones has a chipped girdle. Both the surface fracture and the chipped girdle are not noticeable unless very carefully inspected under a high magnifying jewellers loupe. To the outside of the shank of the ring there is a rubbed French hallmark, presumably what was originally a platinum marking which has worn with age and use. A beautiful example of the 'tank' style jewellery which was being manufactured in France during the late Art Deco period.
