Description
This sizeable Art Nouveau locket was made in the first part of the 20th century and depicts lily of the valley to the front. Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold, the locket features a fine lily of the valley motif which has been grain set with nine rose cut diamonds that are each estimated to be of H colour and total 0.03 carat. The sliding type locket is asymmetrical in shape, and is textbook Nouveau in its design, containing two compartments inside for photos or a relic. The compartments internally retain their inner frame insert which help hold the photographs in place while inside. The rear of the locket has a plain highly polished finish, which could be engraved with initials if desired. The very simple yellow gold bale to the top allows a fine chain to be threaded through, and whilst this bale shows signs of use and wear, has many years of life left in it. The piece which we sourced in America, is unmarked for its maker or origin, however was likely manufactured in North America during the first ten or so years of the 20th century. An absolutely gorgeous example of high Art Nouveau jewellery which would be a touching gift for a 21st birthday, or equally as delightful gifted to a new mum with a picture of her newborn.
