This oversized desk seal dates to the Victorian period and is wonderful in that the matrix on it remains blank. The seal which dates to circa 1870 is very simple in its construction and features an octagonal matrix which to date remains blank, allowing its new owner to have their own monogram or crest engraved into the piece. The seal is a wonderfully rich oxblood red and on close inspection has some natural fissures and variation to the colour which are part of its natural composition. Unlike many of its counterparts, this seal is very large and when held in the hand is a proper 'handful'. In wonderful condition the piece would be a beautiful addition to the desk of someone in the legal or medical profession, or is a terrific object for a curiosity cabinet.
