A pair of late 19th-century vases with handpainted florals in a Chinese style possibly by Samson & Cie of Paris. Converted to table lamps and recently rewired to Australian standards.
The Samson factory of ceramics was established by Edmé Samson in Paris in 1845. It produced high-quality copies of every kind of porcelain, including Meissen, Chantilly, Chelsea, Derby, and Chinese works. These reproductions were created with great skill and can be difficult to distinguish from the original.
