Description
This pair of 19th Century French tazza are crafted from bronze, slate and gilt bronze (ormolu). The rectangular prism columns are cut from slate and support neo classical shaped bronze tazza that are mounted to the columns. To the sides of the tazza are gilt bronze handles in the style of branches and acanthus leaves. The footing of the columns features an ormolu skirting with a classical motif that compliments the pair beautifully. The pair are unmarked for a maker or foundry, however are likely to have been manufactured in France during the first half of the 19th Century. A beautiful addition to a mantel or lovely filled with wrapped chocolates and candies on a Christmas table.
There are some nibbles and fleabites to the slate columns which are entirely commensurate with age and are expected from such a soft material. The losses don't detract from the beauty of these tazza, but inspection of the photographs is encouraged before purchase.
