Description

A George III period sterling silver sugar shaker by members of the famed English silversmithing family, The Batemans. Although slightly rubbed, the hallmarks indicate manufacture from London in 1808 by Hester Bateman's son Peter and grandson William who were producing pieces at the tail end of the reign of George III. The shaker is very simple in its form with minimal decoration, however the name 'Dickson' has been engraved to the front, likely the surname of the original owner. Whilst the maker's mark is only partly visible, the London assay mark for 1808 is clear to both the the base and the lid of the shaker. A beautiful piece of Georgian silver by a desirable maker.

Marked - London hallmarks for 1808 & mark for Peter & William Bateman (rubbed)

Total weight of piece - 91 grams

Measures - 15cm H
