Perhaps the finest and rarest desk seal we have had in our collection to date is this Regency period, 18 karat yellow gold, amethyst and citrine example. The handle of the piece is crafted from a piece of finely faceted and tapered citrine. The base of the seal is rendered in 18 karat yellow gold that could be described as 'repousse' in style, with a delicate floral motif throughout. This gold work encases the matrix of the seal, which has been left blank and comprises of a single piece of polished amethyst. Why the matrix has been left blank is a mystery, however it allows the next custodian of the seal the opportunity to have their own initials or crest engraved. In remarkably fine condition for its age, the piece exhibits some very very minor fleabites to the handle, commensurate with age and use. An extremely fine example of a 19th Century desk seal which would have come from a very fine house indeed.
