Chinese Export Moss Agate Libation Cup by Yamanaka with Silver Mounts

This delightful carved moss agate libation cup with its custom sterling silver stand was made for retail by Yamanaka. The delicate blue moss agate cup has a pair of serpent handles which almost give the piece a neoclassical feel. The handcrafted sterling silver stand has a repousse design of flowers and foliage and is supported by four splayed legs. To the understand the silver stand is marked 'YAMANAKA STERLING MADE IN CHINA', indicating it was manufactured and retailed by Yamanaka & Co, the preeminent retailer of Asian decorative arts in New York and London at the turn of the century. This particular piece which is petit in size is a beautiful example of Chinese silver with hardstone carving and dates to the first quarter of the 20th century. There are very minimal signs of wear other than slight abrasions that are commensurate with age and use. A delightful piece of objet d'art which would be right at home on a shelf with beautiful objects.
