Description

A spectacular Edwardian pearl and diamond Lavalier Necklace by Tiffany & Co. Crafted in 18kt yellow gold and platinum with 25 stone in total: 2 half drilled baroque fresh water natural pearls and 23 old European cut diamonds.

Lavalier necklace is named after Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchesse de La Vallière (1644-1710), mistress of Louis XIV who had a penchant for beautiful jewellery. That particular style of necklace became really popular in the first decade of 20th century. From French actresses to flapper dancers the lavalier has been a strong favorite among those in vogue.

This necklace has been inspected by Tiffany and Co who remarked that the clasp was likely a repair undertaken by them and restamped with thier makers mark and metal purity stamps.

(note from Ben, the Tiffany marked clasp is most likely a modern replacement from Tiffany itself, a common practise for the company. Info from Chris who spoke to someone there)
