This monumental desk seal dates to the Victorian era and has been carved from a large piece of banded agate. The faceted piece of agate features heavy banding and colour variation to one side while the back remains simpler and less patterned. The matrix of the piece features a rather interesting monogram which is presumed to be an entwined 'SL' or 'LS' depending on which letter is read first. The piece dates to the Victorian era when banded agate was widely used, although the monogram has a slightly more contemporary feel and could be a later addition, perhaps during the Art Deco period. This oversized seal would be a beautiful addition to a professional's desk or a great addition to a cabinet of rock and gem specimens.
