Description

This incredible necklace was crafted by the famed North American jeweller, Verdura. The design which is in essence a triple strand pearl necklace comprises three strands of perfectly matched and graduated pearls with are a mix of akoya and South Sea examples. Each of these pearls have been graded to be between 7 and 13 millimetres in diameter. The beautifully matched pearls terminate with a tongue and box clasp which mimics a piece of rope and is fully signed to the rear. From this clasp hangs three graduated pearl tassels which move freely and like the triple strand are individually knotted and secure. The necklace has been designed to sit with the clasp and tassel on the left shoulder of the wearer and will move freely with movement. The design of the necklace dates back to 1941 when Dorothy Paley had Fulco di Verdura craft a unique necklace for her set entirely with emeralds, and so the 'scarf' necklace was born. This contemporary iteration of the scarf necklace has substituted pearls for emeralds meaning it is a piece that has more versatility than the original version. Whilst it is difficult to know when this particular necklace was crafted, it is likely that it was sometime in the last 20 years, in the time since Ward & Nico Landrigan revived the iconic jewellery house. An incredible necklace in superb condition which you are unlikely to see on anyone else in Australia, or internationally.
