Description

It's rare for us to have a piece of jewellery in our collection with such fine provenance. This white gold, lapis and diamond jabot pin was manufactured during the Art Deco period and prior to being in our collection was owned by Irene Roosevelt Aitken who was a New York based philanthropist, socialite, and daughter-in-law of President Roosevelt. Mrs Roosevelt Aitken was an avid collector, heavily involved with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and was compared to one of the greatest benefactors of all time, Mrs Jayne Wrightsman, a fellow collector of 18th century art and antiques. The jabot pin has been crafted in the 1930s and is set with a carved deep blue lapis Buddha which has been accented with a diamond drop necklace. The Buddha has a diamond set lotus style halo and sits atop of a diamond set platform which forms the top of the jabot pin. The bottom of the jabot pin features a twist off mechanism and is further set with diamonds. Each of the diamonds in the pin are rose cut stones of H and K colour and are between SI and P1 in clarity totalling 68 pieces and 0.25 carat. The piece is completely unmarked however is possibly French in origin despite having been in the collection of an American. A stellar example of Art Deco jewellery design with wondrous provenance, this jabot could be worn by an elegant man in a tuxedo, or a woman to hold a cashmere scarf in place.
