Ruby & Diamond Owl Brooch Pin in 14kt Gold

We often get asked about antiques that feature owls, and whilst this little brooch pin is not a true antique, it certainly is a darling. Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold the owl is perched upon a branch with his torso set with 15 round brilliant cut diamonds which are each of H colour and VS clarity totalling 0.45 carat. The owl's face has been set with two round cut rubies as eyes which are deep and slightly purplish red with light inclusions. To the rear the pin features a hinged pin with roller safety catch which is working well and is secure. There are a set of very fine English gold hallmarks to the rear of the owl's tail which are not only extremely tiny but are also illegible, so establishing the maker and the date is not possible. In very fine condition, the piece which likely dates to the second half of the 20th century is the perfect accompaniment to a blazer but could also be worn on a hat brim or would hold a scarf in place nicely.
