Description
This rather gorgeous porcelain vase is in the Greek Revival taste and is attributed to the English maker, Samuel Alcock & Co. The transfer printed designs feature a classical figure on a chariot being drawn by horses on both sides of the vase and an ornate border to the top and each of the two handles. The transfer panels have been hand finished to give the illusion they have been completely hand painted. There are substantial areas of gilding to the vase which further allow the tangerine ground of the piece to pop. The piece is completely unsigned, however similar designs and examples have been firmly attributed to Samuel Alcock & Co who were operating between 1828 and 1859, and therefore we believe the piece to be one of the firm's designs. The vase presents in very good antique condition with no chips or cracks, however has wear to the gilding commensurate with age and use. An absolutely gorgeous piece of 19th century Greek Revival porcelain.
