Description

This rather fine antique ring was manufactured in the 19th century by New Jersey makers Shafer & Douglas. The 9 karat gold ring mount is set with an oval cut rhodolite type garnet which has been surrounded by a halo of seed pearls. The shoulders of the ring feature an ornate Victorian period pierced design and to the inside of the shank is a rubbed engraving, likely dating to the period of manufacture. The hallmark to the inside of the shank is for Newark jeweller Shafer and Douglas who were operating between 1855 and 1922, with this piece likely dating to the late 19th century. The ring is in remarkably good condition for a piece of its age, with only the standard signs of wear to the surface of the gold, commensurate with use. A beautiful Victorian period ring which is just as charming as the day it was made over 120 years ago.

Ring size - 54/N/6.5

Marked - rubbed personal engraving along with maker's mark for Shafer & Douglas

Total weight of piece - 3.70 grams

Independent appraisal values the piece at $2500.
