We find signet style rings to be something we are asked for constantly. This hard stone set gold signet ring is interesting in that it has never had initials or a crest engraved into it, meaning it is a blank canvas. The 14 karat yellow gold mount features some asymmetric gold ribbing to the shoulders of the piece which give us the impression the ring was made perhaps in the 1970s or 1980s, however it is entirely unmarked. The banded agate set in the table of the ring features two layers with a fine sliver of white covering a deep orange, meaning if the ring was engraved with initials or a crest that they would be rather striking. A hand engraver would have the ability to engrave initials or a family crest into the agate if desired, but leaving it in its original state is of course an option also. The piece shows some minor wear to the surface of the gold, commensurate with age and wear, however has many decades of life left in it for its new custodian.
