This whimsical brooch pin was made by Jacques Lacloche in France and is what we we define as a piece of 'Retro' period jewellery. The petit pin has been crafted from 18 karat yellow gold in the form of a field scarecrow, and then set with rubies, emeralds, sapphires, diamonds and a single piece of lapis lazuli. The clothes of the scarecrow are set with an array of tiny baguette cut and calibre cut rubies, sapphires and emeralds along with three diamond 'buttons' on his coat that also has a very fine diamond collar. The scarecrow's head is a round orb of lapis and he has a tiny yellow gold hat further set with rubies. To the rear the brooch is secured to a garment with a hinged double pin which is fully signed for 'J Lacloche' who at the period this piece was made had outlets in Paris and Cannes. There are several small poinçon marks to the rear of the piece, including the eagle head and the dog head which are French marks for gold and platinum. Lacloche in their various forms from partnerships to solo enterprises were among the great French jewellers of the late 19th and early 20th century, and this is a really charming and quirky piece that Jacques Lacloche likely produced in the 1940s. The brooch is in very good order for its age however does show some signs of wear like slight knocks and abrasions to the gemstones and some slight warping to his fingers and toes, commensurate with age and use. A delightful piece of French, Retro period jewellery which would look wonderful on a man's suit lapel for a black tie dinner or charming pinned through a lady's scarf.
