This pair of desirable 'incense stands' are made of the rare 'zitan' timber and were crafted at the end of the Qing Dynasty during the late 19th Century. Zitan is an incredibly rare and dense timber, and is known to sink in water, unlike the majority of other timbers. Zitan timber is written about by the ancient Chinese as being just as valuable as gold and to the current day it is exceedingly valuable and hard to source. The pair were purchased from an estate in Sydney and were said to have been purchased at Sotheby's by their former owners. The pair of perfectly matched incense stands are extremely heavy for their size and construction and would be a beautiful addition to a hallway or even as bedside light stands in a guest bedroom.
