This charming little brooch dates to the Victorian period and was crafted from gold, seed pearls and a madeira citrine. The piece centres on an octagonal cut madeira citrine which is milgrain bezel set and surrounded by 24 seed pearls which are beautifully matched. The piece is finished to the rear with a hinged pin and clasp with a safety catch which is working well and secure. The brooch is marked to the rear for both 15 karat and 14 karat gold, with the 15 karat mark leading us to believe it originated in Victorian England, circa 1875. There is a gold bale fixed to the rear of the pin which may have originally had a safety chain attached, however it has been lost with age. A delightful little piece of Victorian jewellery which could be equally as at home on a man's lapel as a lady's coat.
