This hefty sterling silver cigar box was made by the American firm Tiffany & Company. The box which is cedar lined has hallmarks telling us it was manufactured post 1965, likely sometime during the 1970s. The box is beautiful because of its simplicity and is completely void of ornamentation, leaving it appear sleek and elegant, suitable for someone who is not interested in traditional antiques. To the inside, the box is divided into four sections and is cedar lined, all of which can be very carefully disassembled if desired. On the inside of the lid of the box is a blank cartouche which could be engraved if desired. The most notable thing about this box is the weight, which is substantial for its size, indicating the high quality of Tiffany & Company silver from this period. In lovely order for its age, the piece shows signs of wear in the form of slight scratches, but is otherwise in very good condition. This box would be a beautiful gift for a gentleman who enjoys cigars, or could be used as a ladies jewellery box with the addition of some small felt liners.
