This silver plated lidded centrepiece is colossal in scale and was manufactured by Christian Dior homewares during the second half of the 20th century. The oval platter features a domed oval lid upon which two gilt stag are secured amongst foliage. The lid can be removed and the piece used as a large platter if desired. The piece whilst hard to date is likely to have been manufactured in the 1970s in France or Italy. Whilst we have been unable to attribute this piece successfully to her, the work is very reminiscent of designs by Gabriella Crespi who designed homewares for Christian Dior. Crespi was known for incorporating stags and other wild animals into her homewares both under her own name and that of Christian Dior. An absolutely gorgeous piece for the centre of a very large dining table or sideboard, and likely one of only a small number made.
