Crafted from 14 karat white gold, diamonds, mabe pearl and rice pearls, this torsade was formerly in the collection of the Counts of Hardenberg. The torsade comprises 29 strands of rice pearls strung on silk which terminate with a 14 karat white gold clasp that has been set with diamonds and a central mabe pearl. The round brilliant cut diamonds in this piece are each of G colour and VS clarity totalling 56 pieces and 2.10 carat. The clasp has an integrated tongue and box closure with a very nifty safety catch to the rear so that the necklace stays secure to the neck when worn. In really lovely order this necklace can be worn in a number of ways - with the clasp to the rear, the side, or to the front, and can be worn twisted as a torsade, or untwisted as a multi strand pearl necklace. The marking '585' to the rear of the clasp has us confident that this necklace started life in Germany during the mid 20th Century, however the very small maker's mark is indecipherable. A really stunning piece of cocktail jewellery which has such an Audrey Hepburn 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' quality to it.
