Description

A mid-19th-century miniature portrait of a naval officer in uniform. The piece is likely French judging by the subject's uniform. This picture has been painted on a thin slice of ivory and is presented in its original brass frame with a later fabric and card backing. The piece shows minimal signs of wear. Namely, some very minor craquelure in the officer's jacket (mostly visible with the use of a bright light behind the ivory) which can be used as a way to authenticate its age. Overall a wonderful example of a 19th-century miniature portrait in excellent condition.
