This set of silver salt cellars are a true treat and may have seldom been used. The set comprises four oval salt cellars made from French silver with fitted glass liners and a matched set of four salt spoons. The bowls of the spoons and the internal sections of each cellar has been gilt which stops the salt from burning the silver leaving black marks. The set date to circa 1900 and were manufactured in Paris, France. The maker of the set is Emile Puiforcat, and we believe them to be in the 'Empire' pattern, or in one very similar. Founded in 1820 by Emile Puiforcat, the company continued to produce very high quality silver products through to the mid 20th Century under the guide of his descendants. The pieces also feature the French hallmark for 950 purity silver, the standard for the period. In exceptionally good condition for their age, the set appear to be in as new condition and retain their original retailing box. A beautiful group of salt cellars by one of the best names in French silversmithing.
