This Art Deco ring is an absolutely exquisite example of work produced by Tiffany and Company at the beginning of the 20th Century. The handcrafted platinum ring centres on a cabochon star sapphire that has been rub-over set with the milgrain finish. A gemologist has viewed the ring and described the sapphire as 'medium light greyish blue, subtle six rayed star under direct spotlight, good cut, translucent' and has calculated its weight to be 8.50 carat. The shoulders of this ring are stepped and each set with nine modified round brilliant cut diamonds which are each of G/H colour and VS clarity totalling 18 stones and 0.27 carat. The ring is of a very small size and to our knowledge has never been resized in its life to date, however we have showed Tiffany & Company the piece and they agree it can be resized up several sizes. The piece is signed to the inside of the shank however has been rubbed slightly with wear, with only 'TIFF' still legible. The remarkable thing about this ring is that it retains its original morocco leather fitted case with gilt tooled edging signed twice for Tiffany and Company. The ring dates to circa 1930 and would have been an extremely luxurious purchase at the time, given New York was in the middle of The Great Depression. The ring shows some wear to the sapphire which could be polished out if desired, however we have left the piece in its original state. An absolutely exceptional example of Art Deco jewellery by one of the best in the business.
