Collection: montres

Every antique watch in this collection has been assessed by The Antique Guild's specialist team, examining movement, case, dial, and maker's marks to establish authenticity, period, and provenance. Where external specialist opinion has been sought, that is noted in the piece's documentation. Our research into each watch is an evolving process; records are updated when new information comes to light.

Jewellery & Watch Care, Provenance & Purchase Support

How is the condition and authenticity of each watch assessed?

Each watch is examined for the integrity of its movement, case, dial, and crown. We assess whether components are original to the piece, note any replacements or restorations, and research the maker, reference, and period where possible. Signed dials and case hallmarks are cross referenced against horological records. Where servicing has been carried out, this is documented clearly in the item description.

Do the watches come serviced and running?

Where a watch has been serviced and is in working order, this is noted in the listing. Some pieces in the collection are sold as display or collector items — this is also clearly stated. We are happy to discuss the mechanical condition of any watch in detail and to advise on ongoing servicing requirements before purchase.

Can antique watches be repaired or serviced after purchase?

In most cases, yes. Antique and vintage watches benefit from periodic servicing, and we can recommend specialist watchmakers experienced in working with period movements. We advise against taking antique pieces to general jewellers for servicing — the movements require specialist knowledge and the right parts or fabrication approach.

How should antique watches be stored and cared for?

Antique watches should be kept away from extremes of temperature, humidity, and magnetic fields. Pocket watches and fob watches should be stored flat or in a dedicated case. Wristwatches should not be worn in water unless explicitly rated for it — and antique pieces rarely are. We are happy to provide specific care advice for any watch at the time of sale.
